Times Square, New Year’s Eve, 1992

The ball drops at Times Square–
I can hear it on the TV.
I’m in the kitchen, fumbling,
Trying to grab a bite to eat
Before the ball has dropped,
Before the moment has ended.

Alas, the fridge is empty.
So now I’m running back to the living room,
Empty-handed, close to tears.

The ball has dropped,
The crowd now cheers
And I sit alone dozing
On my couch.
